Top Ten Samurai Films

9. Ninja Scroll

I’ll state the obvious, Ninja Scroll isn’t a live action Samurai film. It’s an anime, but don’t hold that against it. It’s a really rad, ass kicking film set during the time of the Samurai. Ninja Scroll is full of violence, sex, monsters and more. In the mid 90’s it was among the more popular anime films released, along with the likes of Akira and Ghost in the Shell. It’s available to stream so if you haven’t seen Ninja Scroll and want to see some awesome, ass kicking Ninja v Samurai action be sure to check it out. Be warned, this isn’t a kiddie cartoon. Ninja Scroll is a mature piece of animation, and for good reason.

Fun Facts:

  • More successful in the US than it was in Japan
  • Huge influence on the 2009 movie Ninja Assassin
  • Was later adapted into an animated TV series in 2003
